Grower Estate Champagne

May 11, 2011

Grower Estate Champagnes have been around for quite awhile, but the true meaning is still un clear to a lot of the wine consuming community. Pay attention get motivated and jump on this ‘Band Wagon’ of great Champagnes!! Here is the Breakdown: Growers Champagnes come from independent wineries in the Champagne region of France, all the juice comes from single Estates not purchased fruit from another producer or vineyard. The key word here is going to be terroir. A sense of place, where the grapes are grown from. All the Growers have their own vineyards and with that comes their own ‘sense of place’. Unlike the Clicquots and Chandons of the world, who source their fruit from a ton of different vineyards, not giving any true expression of anyone particular site. Yes they produce a ton of ‘Fizz’ but sacrificing quality for quantity. Check yourself before you grab for another bottle of ‘Agent Orange’. These small production wineries also limit the amount of dosage (sugar added to induce secondary fermentation – the stuff that gives you bubbles!) so that their wines are as pure a reflection of their fruit as possible. . Now, how can you tell Grower Champagne from a Big House Champagne? On the front label of virtually every Champagne label, there is an abbreviation code with the letters RM, which stands for Recolant-Manipulant. The nuances of these great Champagnes range in flavors like lemon crème brulee, honey comb to floral notes, add a touch of cocoa powder to forest floor truffles. This newfound knowledge is reason enough to go out and celebrate with a bottle of Champagne. Treat yourself to some high quality, small production bubbly. Support the Growers! You can taste the hard work, dedication, and quality in every mouth-watering sip…and there's something sexy about that. I know I have ‘tooted’ this horn before but I’m just to passionate about this ‘Fizz’ to stand by and not let you have the chance to buy some of these great ‘Bubbles’… You don’t need to have an occasion, pop some popcorn grab a friend or two and get after it!!
